Who cares about Lando Calrissian? I apologize to the fans, but that was my first thought upon seeing the character’s miniseries come up next in my trek through Star Wars comics. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against Lando, but in terms of arc and story, there just does not seem to be much left on the bone...
They say mankind cannot help but fear the unknown. To be scared of the dark may be innate, but I, along with numerous similar souls, maybe you, have always found myself as captivated with what goes bump in the night as I am afraid...
A nervous laugh and a wide-eyed reread. That’s the initial response most readers can expect from any given page of writer-artist Kayla E.’s Precious Rubbish. The award-winning graphic novel is a stylish comedy and memoir that is bright in color while being the exact opposite in tone...
Marvel’s Ultimate Universe is coming to a close once again. Started two years ago, there was always a timer in the background of the whole alternate publishing line, and nothing was different for the title of Ultimate Black Panther. Wakanda’s leaders have been forced into action by The Maker’s lackeys, Lord Khonshu and Lord Ra, who are attempting to dominate the entire African continent. With the help of Killmonger and Storm, Black Panther has the colonizers all but defanged, though a greater evil has reared its head...
After relaunching the Man of Steel via the similarly titled miniseries in 1986, John Byrne and his fellow Superman collaborators had three ongoing comic series to adapt to the new status quo. Superman, Adventures of Superman, and Action Comics were all interconnected and starred the same Clark Kent, alongside his more marketable alter ego...
Deniz Camp’s Ultimates is one of the hardest mainstream superhero comic series I have sat down to review. A book steeped in Marvel’s Ultimate Universe, with both an unconventional story structure and frequently shifting art style, readers are forced to accept that reading Ultimates is a distinct experience from the typical superhero comic...
I have mentioned before that I have never been the biggest Batman fan, in terms of comics. My entry into the medium was through Marvel, and from there, I have mostly looked for more independent and substantive voices rather than works from the big publishers. Nowadays, I am getting into Post-Crisis DC comics, and that, of course, comes with stories of the World’s Greatest Detective and Most Popular Superhero...
Alongside their tentpole Star Wars comic book series, Disney launched a variety of solo and side titles when it acquired the franchise in 2015. Princess Leia from the team of Mark Waid, Terry Dodson, Rachel Dodson, Joe Caramagna, and Joordie Bellaire was one of the new books set to prop up the burgeoning expanded universe...
We have reached the apparent end of an Ultimate Spider-Man book, once again. For twenty-four issues over two years, this version of the series dominated conversations about Marvel comics, and the associated Ultimate Universe was only bested by Absolute DC in terms of the wider industry’s discussions...
We are continuing our journey of the DC comic universe here at Comics for Y’all by circling back to the leading lady of the line, Wonder Woman. Picking up on issue seven and concluding with fourteen of George Pérez’s lauded and lengthy run, we see Diana reborn once again...
